What Does a Primary Care Physician Do?

A primary care physician oversees your comprehensive health care, including mental health treatments. Your physician listens carefully to your concerns, examines your symptoms, and suggests appropriate treatments based on the findings of diagnostic tests. A primary care physician also prescribes medication and helps you manage your dosage. We can refer you to a specialist when necessary, too.

Is Primary Care Different Than a Standard Practice?

Primary care makes it easy for patients to stay healthy. Think of it like having a personal family doctor who is always there for you. We prioritize the physician-patient relationship as we attend to your unique needs. Generally, primary care involves fewer fees, shorter wait times, and a personalized experience. You’ll have peace of mind knowing superior medical advice is just a video call away.

Do I Really Need a Primary Care Physician?

Even if you don’t get sick often, establishing a primary care physician is important to your well-being. Your physician works with you over the course of years, getting to know your medical history as well as your individual wellness goals. Having a physician who is familiar with you means more health benefits, such as reduced overall costs, fewer visits to the hospital or ER, and improved management of chronic health conditions. You’ll feel confident knowing our team is always ready to provide personalized guidance.

What Happens at My Appointment?

For general checkups, you will speak to a physician in a private, comfortable setting. Be honest about how you are feeling, and let us know if there’s anything concerning. We may ask you basic questions about your well-being, such as:

  • Do you have any pain or symptoms that impact your everyday life?
  • Is the medication you’re taking causing problematic side effects?
  • Are you having trouble making healthy choices related to your lifestyle or nutrition?
  • Are you experiencing anxiety, stress, depression, or symptoms of a mental health issue?

Many factors influence your health. We consider a comprehensive range of conditions to help you feel your best.

How Often Do I Need to Visit My Primary Care Physician?

Visiting your primary care physician is critical to maintaining your health. We can order diagnostic tests and use state-of-the-art medical technology to identify signs of disease before they progress. We can help you develop an effective care plan to maximize your current well-being and safeguard your health in the future. Health insurance plans often consider annual physical exams as preventative care, so plan on visiting our office at least once a year for a general checkup. You may need more frequent care depending on your needs.
